Laura Cumming has been chief art critic of The Observer since 1999. Her award-winning books include On Chapel Sands: My Mother and Other Missing Persons, The Vanishing Man: In Pursuit of Velazquez. Her recent memoir Thunderclap: Art and Life and Sudden Death was The Saltire Book of the Year 2024, was shortlisted for The Women's Prize and won the Writer's Prize for Non-Fiction in 2023.
