At no point in history have more people been on the move than they are now. For all the reasons we know - welcome or appalling, chosen or coerced, trivial or profound, brief or lifelong – humans have made journeys. And every passage is not only a movement in place, but also and always in time: the hours, days, weeks of the journey itself, and the years, decades and even centuries we discover along the way. The past is never past when one travels: it comes with us and it meets us when we arrive. As for the future, well, we often set out hoping to find it.

The 2026 edition of FlipSide digs deep into these themes with perhaps the most fitting line-up yet assembled. From Eurasia to Egypt (and all points in between), from migration to memoir, and from the origins of language to the libraries that shelter its fruits, some of the most widely travelled, thoughtful and accomplished writers at work today will explore where we’ve got to, and what we found. All the world’s on stage in Framlingham Old Theatre this 3 October!

Please join us as we welcome Colin Grant, Samantha Harvey, Blake Morrison, Ian Patterson, Laura Spinney, Colin Thubron and Sara Wheeler - all in one place, at the same time.

FlipSide - Starting the conversation
Since 2013, FlipSide has brought writers, artists, musicians and thinkers into live conversation for audiences in Suffolk, exploring the questions that shape culture, politics and public life. Intimate in scale and broad in range, our conversations are serious but not stuffy, and accessible without dumbing down - rooted in Suffolk, global in spirit.

Festival venue: The Old Theatre, 10 Church Street, Framlingham, IP13 9BH
