Through works including in H is for Hawk and Vesper Flights, poet and writer Helen Macdonald is renowned for her astute and intensely personal writing on birds, their behaviour and their meaning for us. Now she considers the nature and mysteries of avian migration, alongside the challenges posed by human activity to this far from fully understood, yet remarkable undertaking.

About Helen Macdonald
Helen Macdonald is a writer and naturalist best-known for her 2014 memoir H is for Hawk, the story of how she trained a goshawk following her father's sudden death. Partly an examination of grief, partly literary biography and partly nature writing, it won many awards and was a New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller. She has also published volumes of poetry and most recently 2020’s Vesper Flights, a collection of essays about our relationship to the natural world. She writes for The New York Times Magazine and presents television documentaries for the BBC. She lives in Suffolk, England, with two small green parrots called The Bugs.
