William Atkins
Acclaimed travel writer William Atkins has journeyed to the UK's moors, the world's deserts and remote islands of exile but now he has moved to Suffolk and found a subject as complex, compelling and controversial as anything he has yet encountered. Exploring how it might be possible to talk about Sizewell without instant polarisation, Atkins considers how the Sizewell nuclear site has shaped its locality over more than sixty years, and how its history will determine its future.
William Atkins' first book, The Moor, was shortlisted for the Wainwright Prize and his The Immeasurable World won the 2019 Stanford Dolman Travel Book of the Year award. His most recent book is Exiles: Three Island Journeys. He has written about Sizewell C for Granta and the Guardian, and is working on a book about the history of the place for Faber & Faber. He is based in East Suffolk.
