Pianofield Present:
Live Jamming with a Brazilian Banana Tree

Jerwood Kiln

06/10/2017 19:00 - 22:00

Composer/piano player Frances Shelley and hardware/software engineer/sound artist Matthew Bickerton make contemporary classical music from combining found sound and acoustic piano.

A live performance of raw human emotions, electronic walls of sound, and delicate piano led melody in which one of the musicians is a tree in Itaipava, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Connected by the very latest technology, the movement of the tree will be sent live to the Kiln room in Snape Maltings and enable it to be present as the third member of the ensemble. The soundscape the tree will produce will be derived from field recordings from sounds found in and around the tree.

Matthew Bickerton and Frances Shelley (pianofield.com) will then respond with an improvised performance using piano and electronic sounds, responding live with the prevailing conditions in Brazil.  The simple act of listening will highlight the joys of global connection made possible in our modern world.
