Founded by Marion Hine in 2011, this workshop is part of Thinking by Making a project established to examine and disseminate ideas on the essential nature of making things - the intellectual development and understanding gained by interacting in a physical way with materials. A form of learning that can only be gained through practical activities. Through her organised workshops and research, Hine explores the idea that those who make things not only develop imaginative and innovative ideas to solve problems, in doing so they create change, variety, and unusual, surprising experiences.

From 1979 to 2000, Hine worked in design partnership with Roger Limbrick, originating ideas and designs for children: wooden toys, educational games, science projects, creative activity kits, books and illustrations. Marion was director of Crafty Devils! from 1995, founded to encourage creativity, imagination and inventiveness in children through practical art, craft, science and technology projects
