CONGRATULATIONS WRITERS

FlipSide, the literature and arts festival with a Latin Beat, has much pleasure in announcing the shortlists of the Flipside New Writing Competition, sponsored by Gotelee, the law firm based in Ipswich, Hadleigh and Felixstowe.

The competition has two categories, 12-17 and 18+, and there are cash prizes of £500 for 12-17s and £1,000 for 18+; Waterstones vouchers, courtesy of Southwold Bookshop, will be given for the second prize in each category.

The shortlisted entries for the 18+ category are by: Jeanette Askew, Vivia Bamford, Hannah Garrard, Rob Hambley, Ann Hirst, Gabriel May, Thea Smiley and Caroline Whatling.

The shortlisted entries in the 12-17 category are by: Bill Anderson-Samways and Isabel Brooks.

This year’s judges are Robert Macfarlane, bestselling travel and nature writer, broadcaster Lesley Dolphin (BBC Radio Suffolk), Liz Calder (founding editorial director of Bloomsbury Publishing and Artistic Director of FlipSide) and Chris Gribble (C.E.O. Writers’ Centre Norwich).

The winning entries will be announced at FlipSide on 3rd October 2015, 14:30 in a special event with Tim Dee, naturalist and author of Four Fields and The Running Sky: A Birdwatching Life, and Patrick Barkham, author of Badgerlands and Coastlines.  Tim and Patrick will be in conversation about their work. this event will be chaired by Chris Gribble.
